Description of the Fellowship Program:

This substance misuse prevention fellowship is part of a national initiative to increase the number of substance misuse prevention professionals working within underrepresented communities. Specifically, the fellowship aims to build emerging substance misuse prevention professionals' capacity to identify, implement, and assess evidence-based programs, practices, and policies to reduce substance misuse and related consequences. This is a full time, paid position. Fellows must reside in North Carolina or South Carolina or be willing to relocate.

Fellows will be employees of Wake Forest University Health Sciences, where the Southeast Prevention Technology Transfer Center is housed. Fellows will be hosted by a state agency or community organization involved in substance misuse prevention work in one of the following states (AL, FL, GA, KY, MS, NC, SC, TN) and spend 50% of their time working on a project within that host agency. At their host agency, fellows will be exposed to the day-to-day work of the organization and receive mentorship and project direction from substance misuse prevention staff.

The remaining 50% of their time will be devoted to learning and capacity development activities coordinated by the PTTC network. The fellowship will involve some travel (at least 2 times, likely more) to substance misuse prevention events across the country. The ultimate goal is for the fellow to acquire enough hours and take the examination to become a certified prevention specialist in their state of residence (To learn more about this, please click here). Funds will be available to cover the associated costs of the trainings, travel, application, study materials and examination.
